The buttocks are a part of the body that has had a lot of attention in the media lately. Whether a photograph in a magazine or a shapely actress or entertainer, the buttocks are a part of the body where great shape matters.
However, the buttocks are not easily enlarged by weight training or diet. Individuals who wish to enlarge, lift, and shape their buttock mounds have two main cosmetic procedures: buttock implants or Brazilian butt lift, also referred to as BBL surgery.
At Associates in Plastic Surgery, our plastic surgeons have decades of experience in cosmetic surgery procedures for the body, such as buttock augmentation, and can help you love your new backside.
A physician at Associates in Plastic Surgery in New Jersey would be pleased to discuss options for enhancing your buttocks during an initial consultation. Please call 732-548-3200 today.

Before and After Photos
Brazilian butt lift
The Brazilian butt lift surgery is an outpatient fat transfer procedure for buttock enhancement performed under general anesthesia. It begins with a liposuction procedure where a predetermined amount of fat is taken from donor areas of the patient’s own body where it is unwanted, such as the lower back, hips, belly, or thighs. It is then purified and sterilized for fat transfer. The harvested excess fat is then injected into the buttocks to add more volume for a firmer and rounder appearance. The remaining fat cells are frozen and can be used for injections at a later date should you desire them.1
Why BBL?
The Brazilian butt lift has gained in popularity over the last few years. This is mainly because the procedure is easier than body contouring with butt implants, and the rear end can gradually be enhanced through fat grafting.
A Brazilian butt lift procedure is very desirable because the added volume comes from your own fat. This means that the Brazilian butt lift offers the following benefits:
- Natural look and feel
- No risk of an allergic reaction
- Ability to have more injected at any time
During recovery, a little bruising and swelling are expected, but since the incision is tiny, recovery should be no more than 7-10 days. While some of the fat can be reabsorbed, much of the fat can remain and develop a blood supply.
Buttock implants
Buttock implant surgery is a little more involved than the Brazilian butt lift, but patients like the significant and long-lasting results that can be achieved. The preoperative consultation is vitally important because our surgeons must examine and discuss the position and size of the implants you’re interested in. That way, the result can simultaneously be optimal for your desires and natural appearing.
During your buttock implants procedure, a 2-3-inch incision is made between the buttocks in the midline. The buttock muscle is lifted, and a pocket is made just large enough for the implant. The implant is then inserted, and the other side is completed. After inspecting for symmetry, the incisions are closed with fine, dissolving sutures, followed by taping for further support.
During recovery, the dressing must stay dry for two weeks, and pressure should not be placed on the butt. Strenuous activity should be avoided for one month. The incisions will be firm and pink for a few weeks but will fade over the next several months. The benefit is that once the implants are well healed in place, the results will last.
Buttock threadlift
The Buttock Threadlift is a quick and simple procedure that can be done while the patient is awake. Under local anesthesia, long stitches are placed through a tiny incision on each side that grabs the buttock tissue and lifts it.
After three months, the small incision can be reopened, and the stitches tightened further to provide a long-term result. Recovery and pain are minimal after this procedure.
Benefits
- A more attractive angle of projection in the rear end
- Firmer, fuller contours in the buttocks
- A more feminine, rounded physique
- Enhanced wardrobe options
- Improved self-image
- Natural-looking results

FAQs
Can I Combine Any Other Procedures With Brazilian Butt Lift?
Yes, in fact, many of our patients choose to combine BBL surgery with other body contouring procedures such as Tummy Tuck, Breast Augmentation, or included as part of a Mommy Makeover.
What’s The Difference Between A BBL, Buttock Implants, And A Buttock Lift?
Although often mistaken for the same procedure, these three procedures bear important distinctions. A BBL is a surgical procedure that enhances the volume and shape of the butt using injected fat taken from a donor area. In contrast, buttock augmentation with butt implants uses silicone implants to shape the buttocks. A butt lift doesn’t add any volume but removes excess fat and skin and repositions the remaining skin for a more toned appearance.1
