Lip Enhancement
Consultations offered at our four convenient locations in Edison, Marlboro, Warren and West Orange, NJ
Lip augmentation is an aesthetic procedure designed to provide our patients in Edison, Marlboro, Warren, and West Orange, New Jersey, with fuller, sexier, plump lips. Lip enhancement can also correct cosmetic irregularities in the lips such as asymmetry or correct concerns related to aging or weight loss to achieve a perfectly proportioned pout and provide balance to the facial features overall. There are a variety of treatments that can enhance lip volume including injectable fillers, lip implants, or fat grafting.
Augmenting the lips should be done gradually to keep the lips looking natural. At Associates in Plastic Surgery, we use several techniques to achieve beautiful and natural-looking results.

Juvederm™ injections
Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler. Performing Juvederm lip filler injections is a straightforward procedure that can be done as an in-office treatment in a few minutes. The results of lip injections with hyaluronic acid fillers are natural-looking and may last up to 8 months. In addition to enhancing the volume and contour of the lips,1 Juvederm is ideal for reducing or eliminating lip lines (perioral rhytids) on the top and lower lip as well as fine lines around the mouth.
Fat injections
Fat injections, also called fat transfer, can build up the volume in thin lips over time using your fat as a natural enhancement. This cosmetic surgery requires harvesting fat using liposuction and then injecting the fat in a specialized lip augmentation procedure.2 Fat injections are ideal for patients seeking permanent lip enhancement or who have allergic reactions to silicone or ingredients in other dermal fillers.
Silicone injections
Injections of silicone can gradually increase the size of the lips. Microinjection techniques are employed to build up the lips over time with only a minimal chance of side effects and little to no downtime. The results can be permanent because silicone is similar to placing an implant in the lips.
Lip implants
A lip implant can be used to accomplish the desired enhancement in a single visit,3 but these are used much less often nowadays due to the ease and fine-tuning allowed with silicone injections.
Upper lip lift
The upper lip lift is a minor surgical procedure for the face where an incision is hidden under the nose and some skin of the upper lip is excised, followed by a plastic surgery closure of the lip which subsequently lifts it.4 This can be done under local anesthesia, but the upper lip has to be long enough to accommodate the excision.
Other surgical procedures that lift the upper lip are discouraged, especially when making an incision at the lip margin which may result in a noticeable scar.

FAQs
Am I A Candidate For Lip Enhancement?
Candidates for lip enhancements are individuals with concerns about the shape and/or size of their lips. Good candidates are in overall good health and have realistic expectations.
Does Lip Augmentation Hurt?
Because most dermal fillers have an anesthetic included in their formulation, any discomfort felt at the injection sites is typically mild. Other treatments such as lip lift and fat injections include a local anesthetic numbing agent to ensure your maximum comfort.
Can I Combine Other Treatments With Lip Enhancement?
Yes, our cosmetic surgeons are experts in all surgical and non-surgical facial rejuvenation procedures. Many of our patients choose to combine lip augmentation with an anti-aging skin care regime or a procedure offered by our medical spa like Botox, Kybella, or even laser hair removal. For more comprehensive results, we offer aesthetic plastic surgery procedures such as rhinoplasty and body contouring with liposuction which can be complementary to lip enhancement.
What Can I Expect From My Results?
When considering lip enhancement, it’s natural to wonder about the results you can expect. During your free consultation at our practice, you can discuss your goals, concerns, and desired outcomes. As a first-time patient, you’ll receive detailed information about the procedure, including potential risks and complications. Your provider, Dr. Andrew Miller or Dr. Haramis, will also assess your suitability for the procedure based on factors like your medical history and current health status.
After the procedure, you can expect some post-op effects such as swelling, bruising, and tenderness. These usually subside within a few days to a week, and your lips will gradually settle into their final shape and size. Regarding wait times, it’s essential to understand that immediate results may not be fully indicative of the final outcome. Swelling and initial changes will settle over time, typically within a few weeks. Patience is key in allowing the full effects of the procedure to manifest.
