What is CoolSculpting Elite?
CoolSculpting is a non-surgical method of fat reduction that has revolutionized body contouring procedures over the last decade. Also known as cryolipolysis, CoolSculpting uses intense cold to freeze fat cells without damaging the surface tissues and nerves. Stubborn fat can be reduced significantly in the treated area, though results can vary, and CoolSculpting is proven to be safe and effective.1
CoolSculpting Elite is the latest and most advanced addition to the CoolSculpting system. The Elite features seven applicators that are specifically designed to hug the body’s natural curves for improved comfort and fit. Moreover, the new dual applicators of CoolSculpting Elite allow us to treat double the surface area and to target areas that were previously difficult to reach. We can also treat more fat in a shorter amount of time, thanks to applicators that feature an 18% greater surface area.2
Benefits
With a short treatment time, no downtime and, best of all, no need for surgery, CoolSculpting is an advanced technique that uses patented, FDA approved cooling technology based on research done by two Harvard scientists who found a way to apply cold, non-invasively, to remove fat. Touted as the next generation in cosmetic enhancement technology, CoolSculpting could replace liposuction in the future as the go-to procedure for smoother, sculpted abs. In fact, CoolSculpting is the #1 non-invasive fat reduction procedure.3
The physicians at Associates in Plastic Surgery include body contouring specialists experienced in using new technology like CoolSculpting to help their patients achieve the smooth, flat abs they have worked so hard for. How it works
CoolSculpting targets and cools fat cells to a temperature that crystallizes them, triggering their natural death. The cells are cooled beneath the skin, leaving the tissue undamaged. Since fat cells crystallize faster than normal cells, there is no danger of damaging nerves and other tissues. This is a concern with more invasive procedures like surgery and laser treatments.4
The procedure itself is usually painless, which means there’s no need for anesthesia, a common necessity for many body contouring procedures. You can stop by one of our offices in New Jersey on your lunch break, sit back and relax while receiving treatment and be on your way back to work that afternoon.
The procedure
During your CoolSculpting treatment, the machine is placed over your abdomen and after a few minutes the targeted bulge is pulled up and pressure is applied to keep it in place.
The area will feel cold but this lasts a short time and quickly becomes unnoticeable. Before you know it, the procedure is complete and you’re free to step back into your everyday routine without missing a beat.
Recovery
Over the next few weeks and months, the targeted area’s fat cells shrink and die. The patient’s body naturally metabolizes the cells and removes them. This gives the impression of stubborn stomach fat melting away over time. Noticeable results are achieved in as little as three weeks and the most dramatic changes are seen after two months.
Your body will continue to flush out dead fat cells up to six months after treatment, but this is unnoticeable. The final result is a significant reduction in the overall fat layer of the abdomen, leaving a smoother, sleeker-looking stomach.
While the results after one treatment are noticeable and measurable, you may still desire further shaping work. For the best results, we recommend you schedule a consultation with your doctor to modify your treatment plan if you’ve made some headway but still want help trimming your abs.
CoolSculpting vs. liposuction
Prior to the emergence of CoolSculpting, many people turned to liposuction for reducing pockets of excess fat. CoolSculpting quickly became a viable alternative for those looking to contour their body without incisions or downtime. However, liposuction may still be your best option if you desire a more significant change.
Our board-certified plastic surgeon will discuss your specific goals and provide a comprehensive treatment plan for your unique situation. The non-invasive treatment is typically administered in under an hour, making it one of the quickest and easiest ways to reduce pockets of unwanted fat.
Candidates for CoolSculpting
CoolSculpting is versatile and non-invasive, making it one of the easiest ways to contour your body without impacting your daily life. CoolSculpting may be right for you if:
- You want to smooth or define areas of your body
- You are at or near your ideal weight
- You don’t anticipate any significant weight changes in the future
- You are willing to maintain a healthy lifestyle
CoolSculpting is not a weight loss procedure and is primarily used to help you look your best by removing unwanted “pinchable” bulges. It can help your clothes fit better and boost your self-confidence but is less effective than lipo for those with greater quantities of fat to remove.

FAQ
How many CoolSculpting Elite treatments will I need?
With each treatment, a new layer of cells is exposed as more fat cells are flushed out of the body. You will likely need one to three treatments to see optimal results. The exact number of treatments will depend on the area you want to treat and how much excess fat is present there.
How does CoolSculpting feel?
You will feel a cooling sensation for the first few minutes, but that quickly dissipates. You may also feel suction from the applicator. CoolSculpting is typically not a painful procedure and you are welcome to bring a book, tablet, smartphone, or simply sit back and relax during your treatment.
How long does it take to recover from CoolSculpting?
There is typically no recovery period after CoolSculpting. You will be able to leave immediately following your treatment and resume your day. You may experience slight discomfort or itching sensation near the treated area in the next few days, but they are easily tolerated. Without incisions or anesthesia, CoolSculpting is one of the easiest ways to reduce stubborn fat.
Is CoolSculpting permanent?
CoolSculpting is permanent in that the frozen fat cells are destroyed and removed from the body. In that sense, the fat loss is long-lasting, as the cells are not simply shrunken or redistributed. That being said, your body is still susceptible to changes in your diet and exercise routine and the remaining fat cells could expand in the future. We recommend maintaining a healthy lifestyle to maintain your newly-sculpted body.
